Frequently asked questions

What does a heat pump cost?

A hybrid heat pump costs € 4,000 to € 7,000 including installation. A full (all-electric) heat pump comes to € 8,000 to € 18,000, depending on the capacity and adjustments to the heat-emission system. A heat-pump water heater costs € 2,000 to € 4,000. The national ISDE subsidy returns part of the purchase price.

Is my home suitable for a heat pump?

That mainly depends on insulation and the heat-emission system. Honest answer: a poorly insulated house is not (yet) a candidate for a full heat pump — insulate first, or choose a hybrid that works alongside the boiler. A heat-loss survey settles what is feasible for your specific home.

What is the difference between hybrid and full (all-electric)?

A hybrid heat pump works together with your boiler: the heat pump heats most of the year, while the boiler assists on cold days and handles hot water. A full (all-electric) heat pump replaces the boiler entirely — the gas can go, but that requires good insulation and a low-temperature heat-emission system.

Can I get a subsidy for a heat pump?

Yes. Heat pumps and heat-pump water heaters qualify for the Dutch national ISDE subsidy scheme. The amount depends on the type and capacity of the chosen appliance. Ask the installer to state the subsidy amount in the quote — they know which appliances qualify.

How much noise may the outdoor unit make?

Newly placed outdoor units of heat pumps and air conditioners are subject to a legal noise limit: at the neighbours' the unit may produce at most 40 decibels in the evening and at night. A good installer factors this into the position and advises a low-noise setup or enclosure where needed.

Do I need a permit for the outdoor unit?

In many cases no: at the rear of the house or in the garden an outdoor unit can often be placed without a permit. On a listed building, in a protected townscape or on the front facade a permit is often required, and municipalities apply the rules differently. In an apartment you additionally need the owners' association's (VvE) approval. Do the permit check with your municipality before installation.

Does a heat pump work with ordinary radiators?

A heat pump works best at a low flow temperature. Underfloor heating is ideal; generously sized radiators work fine too. If the radiators are undersized for low temperature, the installer will advise supplementing them or switching to low-temperature radiators. With a hybrid this is less critical: the boiler assists when it gets really cold.

How often should a heat pump be serviced?

Have the heat pump checked periodically — many manufacturers require periodic servicing to keep the warranty valid. A maintenance visit costs € 150 to € 300. You keep the filters dust-free and the outdoor unit clear of leaves yourself; work on the refrigerant circuit is legally reserved for F-gas-certified engineers.

How long does a heat pump last?

A well-installed and maintained heat pump lasts on average around 15 years. Correct sizing makes the difference: an oversized heat pump cycles (switches on and off frequently) and wears faster as a result. That is why a good quote starts with a heat-loss survey.

Is a request really free and without obligation?

Yes. Submitting a request costs nothing and commits you to nothing. You receive up to 3 quotes and choose yourself — or no one, that's fine too. Prices and payment are arranged directly with the installer.

How fast will I get a response?

Installers in your region respond as soon as possible with a price indication or a proposal for an advice call. During the heating season it can take slightly longer; outside the peak most companies schedule a site visit within a few weeks.

Are the installers vetted?

We verify Chamber of Commerce registration at onboarding and ask for proof of business liability insurance. Work on a heat pump's refrigerant circuit is legally reserved for F-gas-certified companies — feel free to ask about it with the quote. Customer experiences factor into matching.
