A heat-pump water heater heats tap water only: it extracts warmth from the (ventilation) air and therefore uses a fraction of what an electric boiler needs. A logical step if you want to cut gas use without tackling the entire heating system at once.
Expect € 2,000 to € 4,000 including installation, depending on the cylinder volume (matched to your household) and the installation spot. The cylinder needs a space about two metres tall — attic, storage room or basement — preferably close to the bathroom or kitchen.
The installer advises on the right volume and the connection to your existing installation. The national ISDE subsidy also covers heat-pump water heaters.
